Announcing Wilderstein's 2008 Exhibit

Wilderstein Historic Site’s 2008 exhibition “Art Of, For & By Women” examines the important social, cultural, and economic impact that generations of women had on the history of Wilderstein and the Hudson Valley.  These women represent a period of over 200 years from the 1697 Beekman Patent to the death of Margaret (Daisy) Suckley in 1991.  Their stories are told through their portraits, some by renowned artists and others by amateur artists in the family; their dowries and wedding gifts; their needle work and other possessions which were created, given, or purchased for their homes and family.

Throughout the first floor rooms of the Wilderstein mansion, visitors will have the opportunity to see objects from our collections that have never before been available for public viewing.  It is also an opportunity to put into context the Suckley women of Rhinebeck and the significant role each generation played in their family’s history and in the Rhinebeck community.

Many thanks go to exhibition designers William Clutz, Dona McLaughlin, Duane Watson, and the Wilderstein Collections Committee for creating what promises to be an incredibly fascinating and highly educational exhibit.  The generous sponsorship of Barbara Boccuto & Darrelyn Brennan of Wachovia Securities is gratefully acknowledged and most appreciated.

This exhibition will be open for the duration of Wilderstein’s regular tour season -- May 1 to October 31, Thursday thru Sunday, from noon until 4 PM.  A preview party will take place on April 26 beginning at 4:30 PM.  For reservations and additional information, please call the Wilderstein office at 845-876-4818.
