Wilderstein's 30th Anniversary & 2010 Tour Season
Simultaneous with the season opening, Wilderstein's new exhibition "C P R" opens on May 1. Showcased will be 30 years of Conservation, Preservation and Restoration work at the site. One focus of this exhibition is the process involved in the remarkable restoration of the exterior of the Wilderstein mansion. Recent conservation work in the dining room, entry hall and library, as well as the treatment of objects in the collections will also be featured. The exhibit is possible thanks to the generous sponsorship of Vicki Haak of Ameriprise Financial Services and Barbara Boccuto & Darrelyn Brennan of Wells Fargo Advisors. On May 22 Wilderstein will hold its biannual Fala Gala, a day of fun for dogs of all breeds and their human admirers. July 3 is Wilderstein’s annual Summer Celebration benefit fundraiser. This evening will celebrate the dedication of an honorary host committee composed of Wilderstein board members and volunteers spanning the past 30 years. On October 3, a special 30th Anniversary luncheon will be held at the site. Founding board president J. Winthrop Aldrich is to be honored that afternoon. By the early 1970s, Margaret (Daisy) Suckley was the last remaining resident of Wilderstein and had started to ponder its ultimate fate. Thanks to the vision of a number of local preservationists, a dialogue was initiated about making the long-term preservation of Wilderstein a grassroots enterprise, a co-venture by Miss Suckley and individuals in the community coming together as a not-for-profit museum corporation. She was delighted by this notion. The establishment of Wilderstein as an independent, not-for-profit historic site was announced from the verandah of the mansion in June of 1980. The first weekend Wilderstein opened to the public an astonishing 5,000 visitors came. Each was greeted personally by Miss Suckley! Wilderstein’s 2010 tour season and C P R exhibition runs until the end of October, Thursdays through Sundays, from noon to 4pm.
